Mangando Project

Main objective of the project is to support the tangible and intangible heritage of the Cameroonian coast through the production of exhibitions, musicals, cultural works, cultural videos.

Project Presentation

The Mangando Dance and Musical Comedy for Network of Actors Project is part of a collaboration between the local authority and the actors of the artistic community with a view to supporting the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Littoral region of Cameroon through a production of exhibitions, musicals, cultural works, cultural videos and scientific articles in order to facilitate access to new audiences by means of multimedia technologies. The Municipality of Dibombari would like to become, thanks to this project, a local administration partner of tangible and intangible cultural works for the Sawa peoples of the Littoral. With its implementation partner, the Mangando Water-Troup Association, it will
⦁ Create a professional network;
⦁ Produce and circulate a didactic type exhibition and musicals and finally
⦁ Produce video documentaries and a series of scientific articles.
The Project is supported by the European Commission through the Create in Central Africa Project of the ACP-EU Culture Program and will run for 11 months from March 2023 to February 2024. 

Project Objectives

Main objective of the project is to support the tangible and intangible heritage of the Cameroonian coast through the production of exhibitions, musicals, cultural works, cultural videos.

Specific Objective 1.

Create a professional network of cultural associations of Dibombari and Douala for the production of artistic products from the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of minority and indigenous peoples of the Cameroonian coast.

Specific Objective 2. 

Produce a didactic type exhibition and musicals of the cultural heritage of minority and indigenous peoples of the Cameroonian coast.

Specific Objective 3. 

Produce video documentaries and a series of scientific articles on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of minority and indigenous peoples of the Cameroonian coast.

Project Results

A professional network of 200 cultural associations in Dibombari and Douala has been created for the production and circulation of artistic products (exhibitions, musicals, cultural works, cultural videos)

03 didactic type exhibitions for schools and young people on the ruined colonial built heritage of Dibombari and Douala, on the cult of water of coastal peoples on the intangible cultural heritage, namely childhood games and widowhood among the coastal peoples of Cameroon were carried out

03 video documentaries for Tik Tok, on widowhood, the cult of water, childhood games of coastal peoples were made

12 quality scientific articles on widowhood, water worship, childhood games have been published

The Commune of Dibombari

Created in 1955, by Law No. 1489 of November 11, 1955, the Commune of Dibombari is one of the 13 districts in the Department of Moungo in the Cameroonian Littoral Region. With a population of more than 14,000 inhabitants in 2011, Dibombari is the capital of the District of the same name. It is located 18 kilometers from the city of Douala, its area is 150 km2 and has 38 villages, 9 of which are located in the urban area. During the project, the Municipality of Dibombari provides a dedicated team made up of the General Coordinator of the project who is the mayor himself, a Focal Point and project manager who will ensure the operational implementation of the project, officials administrative and financial.

The Mangando Water-Troop Association 

Created according to the provisions of Law No. 90/053 of December 19, 1990, the Mangando Water-Troup Association is a traditional and cultural organization. Its headquarters are in Bonanjo in the city of Douala, it has around thirty permanent members. It works in the promotion and improvement of cultural development by encouraging: 1. The creation and dissemination of live performances combining several forms of Comedies, Choirs, Traditional songs, traditional dances, contemporary dances, traditional instruments and costumes in order to promote activities of 'expression ; 2. Dissemination of techniques and knowledge in the fields of musical comedy, traditional and contemporary dances; 3. The organization of events and all initiatives that can help promote musicals, dances and the promotion of cultural and traditional diversity. In the project, it will have to, thanks to its network of partners throughout the Cameroonian Littoral region, mobilize musical actors, artists as well as traditional leaders. Well anchored in the field of cultural development, traditional music and entertainment, she is a great contribution to the project. It mobilizes the Project Manager and a Cultural Manager in the project and cultural operators.
